Nutrition is a fundamental requirement for good health. Most of us recognise that eating the wrong foods lead to ill health. By the same token eating the right foods and taking supplements support bodily functions and can help prevent and manage health problems.
Over the years that I have practiced some complaints are more widespread than others. Below are some of the most common conditions that clients need help with.
• Skin complaints such as acne, scaring, age spots, wrinkles, aging skin, dry and/or oily skin, puffiness, dark circles around eyes, psoriasis, ezcema, sore lips and cracks at the corners of the mouth, cold sores, recurrent wart infetions, rashes and hives.
• Hair complaints including dry and dull hair, hair that breaks off, thinning hair, thinning eyebrows, excess body/facial hair.
• Weight loss: difficulty losing weight, weight distributed differently with age or childbirth especially around the middle, hips, tummy, thighs and arms.
• Headaches and migraines that frequently comes several times each week or month for “no apparent reason”.
• Fertility problems in both women and men. Optimising your nutritional status may greatly increase your chances to conceive.
• IBS: Irritable Bowel Syndrome with symptoms like abdominal bloating, pain, cramps, diarrhoea, constipation, irregular bowel movement, heart burn, belching and/or indigestion.
• Low energy and tiredness: being unable to wake up without coffee, getting an energy dip in the afternoon, feeling tired after meals. This is very common after having had children, working in stressful environments or having a stressful job.
• Hormonal problems – an umbrella phrase that incorporates several bodily functions including overactive or underactive thyroid, adrenal dysfunction (your stress hormones), PMS and other female sex hormones imbalances like PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), cysts and endometriosis.
• PMT/PMS - Premenstrual tension/syndrome with emotional and physical symptoms. Some of the most common emotional symptoms are mood swings, irritability, depression, anxiety, anger, trearfulness, poor concentration, lethargy, and feelings of low self-esteem. The most prevalent physical symptoms are sugar and food cravings, bloating, weight gain, water retention, aches and pains, cramps, acne, headaches/migraines, tiredness, changes in sleep patterns, and nausea.
• Allergies/sensitivities/hay fever: may they be to food or the environmental, seasonal or permanent, symptoms include runny nose, itchy eyes/ears, excess mucous production, feeling run down and tired.
• Sleep problems: inability to fall asleep, sleeping lightly, waking up early and restless sleep.
• Stress related problems in respons to chronic physical or psycological/emotional stress. Stress symptoms can manifest themselves in several ways including any sort of pain, heart problems, sleep disturbances, low energy, digestive disorders, lowered immunity, recurring infections/colds/flu, recurrent thrush or cystitis, weight problem, hair and skin disorders, premature aging, hormonal changes, and depression.
• Frequent colds and flu: a healthy adult should suffer no more than 2-3 colds a year so if you do succumb to more you ought to look at your health and immune system.
• Anti-aging: premature aging, deep wrinkles, dark circles under eyes and gloomy looking skin. I will give advice on how to obtain external beauty from the inside and slow down the aging process.
